Filipa Pena Reis was born in Lisbon, in 1984, where she lives and works.
Filipa Reis studied Photography at Ar.Co – Centro de Arte e Comunicação, Lisbon and Art History at Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas da Universidade Nova de Lisboa.
The artist was selected for the Mostra Jovens Criadores (Photography) from Centro Português de Artes e Ideias in two different editions – 2010 e 2012. Attended an art residency at Red Gate Residency in Beijing (2011), city where she lived for 2 years and developed several photography projects (exhibitions and self-publishing); While living in Beijing, organized other cultural events, integrating the teams of The Sarau Project and World Culture Open, a non-profit cultural organization. Was the co-curator and artist of the exhibition Nevermind The Space Between Us, in Beijing and in Lisbon at Fábrica do Braço de Prata (2013). In December 2014 presented the solo exhibition Topofilia#2 at Mute, Lisbon and later took part at the collective exhibition MUTE I ANO, in July 2015. In November 2015 presented the solo exhibition Topofilia #4 at Edge Arts, Lisbon, realizing also a publication with the same title, which was later presented at Feira do Livro de Autor de Lisboa, at Arquivo Fotográfico de Lisboa.
In September 2016 started a research about utopias in collaboration with Netta Levran and together they organized an open studio that opened in August 2017 – Utoparium @ Lisbon – Mute, in Lisbon. The result of the research and the laboratory is being worked on for a publication.
