João Dias was born in 1983, in Lisboa and currently lives and works in Viseu. João Dias finished in 2006 his graduation in Fine Arts – Painting in the Fine Arts’s Faculty of the Lisbon’s University. As an artist he star working with Pedro Serrenho’s gallery, that took his work to the Lisbon’s Contemporary Art Fair. He also works since 2011 with the Art-Form Gallery, in Estoril.
Among the artist’s many projects, we can outline the artistic residency at Carpe Diem Art and Research, in Lisbon (2015), the exhibition Finalistas dos Encontro da Imagem de Braga in 2014, the work Drawing/Performance with Abraham Hurtado that was presented in Berlin, Murcia and Barcelona (2011-12), the exhibition Living Draw with Daniela Lehman, in Berlin and Lisbon (2008-09) and Casa with Romulus Neagu.
João Dias has shown his work internationally in cities like Munich, Berlin, New York, Barcelona, Murcia or London. He was also awarded by INOV-ART, that provided an internship in Berlin, city where he lived between the years of 2008 and 2012. João Dias’s work has also been shown individually in exhibitions like Living Draw in Berlin (2008), Inside Drawing in Lisbon (2008), Ping Pong project in Berlin, 1st Rehearsal in London (2012) or the artistic residency at the Drawing Space in Lisbon (2010).
Currently João Dias is the co-founder and artistic director of Saguão – Experimental Gallery located in Viseu since 2013. In 2014, he created Objectos Experimentais with the purpose of developing artistic and interactive projects with mechanical or technological nature to install in the historic city center.
