Joana BC is a Portuguese artist. Her multidisciplinary practice incorporates drawing, painting, sculpture, performance, installation and writing. She studied Painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Porto, institution where she currently teaches, and took a master’s degree in Painting at the Slade School of Fine Art, London.
Her work has been exhibited in Portugal, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Switzerland, Turkey.
In 2015 she was granted a fellowship by the Künstlerhaus Schloss Balmoral as an artist-in-residence in Bad Ems, Germany. In 2016 her work was part of the exhibition Seahorses and flying fish shown at the Arp Museum Banhof Rolandseck, Germany. In 2017 she had a solo exhibition titled those who listen to the sounds (and many cries) of the World organized by Edge Arts, at Espaço Amoreiras, Lisbon. In 2018 her work was selected for the XX Cerveira International Art Biennial and for Contextile – Biennial of Contemporary Textile Art, both in Portugal.
