Tiago da Cunha Ferreira (b. 1979, São Paulo, Brazil)

Tiago da Cunha Ferreira’s work is defined by a documental character that aims to portray human condition and contribute to shape history through his exhibitions and photographic publications.  He established himself as a photographer through his first book “Ukama Wangu – Family of Mine”. This volume published by Assírio&Alvím in 2006, features a written introduction by Mia Couto and consists of black and white photographs portraying the Tivane, a Mozambican family. In 2011, in collaboration with the author Jacinto Lucas Pires they have published “Vamos” which was commissioned by both the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the Academy Ubuntu.

In October 2014, Fotografias da Guiné-Bissau’s artist book was published in the context of the show at National Museum of Natural History and Science – University of Lisbon, which portrays part of the reality of that country and its people.

Tiago da Cunha Ferreira believes in the visual literacy potential that Photography provides and has been preparing a project for the social integration of children and young people in Portugal. He lives and works in Lisbon since 1987.
